Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"First created in 2011 at l'Atelier du Plateau in Paris, the concert/performance "Printemps" offered audiences a hybrid between theater, music, sound poetry and political manifesto - for it was focused on the "Arab Spring" in Egypt, among other things - where the intertwined words and voices of Julien Boudart, Xavier Papais and Egyptian blogger Aalam Wassef created a reflection on the magic of (new) beginnings.

At the heart of this "soundtrack", recreated here in the studio (disc 1), we can hear the quartet composed of Hugues Mayot (saxophones) Sylvain Lemetre (percussion), Antonin Rayon (piano, keyboards) and Sylvaine Helary (flutes, composition). In "Spring Roll" (disc 2), entirely instrumental and somehow a musical mirror and an extension (through a brand new repertoire) to "Printemps", the quartet delivers a highly sensory music, multiplying articulation strategies between composition and improvisation, and shifting from large areas of pulsed minimalist grooves to tightly written sequences. In both cases, a wandering and bright hymn to freedom, as much of invention and creativity as of speech."-Ayler

Artist Biographies

"Sylvaine Hélary, enjoying a solid classical training, having plunged into the vertigo of improvisation with Bernard Lubat, this flutist is one of those soloists who establish a natural link between contemporary music, jazz and various currents of new music. Her curiosity leads her to projects that are often multidisciplinary, such as Spring.

She was part of the Surnatural Orchestra for ten years. She plays in duet with Noémi Boutin (Myssil and show young public Entre Chou and Loup), recently includes the new sextet of Marc Ducret (Chronicles of the frozen sea), Ensemble Dédales by Dominique Pifarély, Didier Levallet's quintet Croise), Ève Risser (White Desert Orchestra), Morgen Naughties (Tam De Villiers and Karsten Hochapfel), and Michel Édelin's quintet (Flute Fever).

She is invited to be part of the new creation of Alexandra Grimal (Steam over rice) and Jozef Dumoulin's next quintet. She collaborates with many musicians such as Robin Fincker, John Niekrasz, Marco Quaresimin, Nicole Mitchell, Edward Perraud, YJN (D. Yvinec), Dgiz, Dominique A and Fantazio. New York (Kris Davis, Matt Mitchell, Tim Berne, Dan Weiss, Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Rainey) and Chicago (The Bridge # 5 with Eve Risser, Mike Reed, Fred Lonberg-Holm). She realizes her dreams of writing and composition in her acoustic quartet Spring Roll (Antonin Rayon, Sylvain Lemêtre and Hugues Mayot), her trio (Antonin Rayon and Emmanuel Scarpa) and her new quartet Glowing Life Ray, Benjamin Glibert, John Niekrasz)."

"Sylvain Lemêtre, percussion

The itinerary of the eclectic percussionist Sylvain Lemêtre takes shape around his openness and his insatiable curiosity towards explorations and musical encounters. His favorite field is the confines of contemporary creation, jazz, improvisation and traditional music.

He trained at the conservatory at a young age, winning a first prize in percussion and chamber music at G.Sylvestre in Rueil-Malmaison and a first prize in traditional percussion at C.Nicolas in Argenteuil. In addition, he has always worked and played Zarb with F.Bedel, trained in soundpainting with V.Le Quang and practiced piano with C.Stephan. Nourished by the teachings of his masters, he likes to describe himself as "a self-taught conservatoire", defending a non-academic musical path, favoring listening, autonomy, analytical and critical sense, both towards the learned written music. and traditional and improvised oral music.

The question of theatricality in music and the presence of musicians on stage is very important to him when he approaches musical theater. Thus, today he is passionately involved in training courses with extremely varied aesthetics:

"The subtraction of flowers" by Jean-François Vrod, "The Cairn Ensemble" directed by Jérôme Combier, "Surnatural Orchestra", "Léger Sourire" musical theater duet, "Spring Roll" and "Printemps" by Sylvaine Hélary, " Saltarello "by Garth Knox," Farewell my beautiful "by Matthieu Donarier. "Boreal Sound" his solo around texts by Olivier Mellano, "The steam over rice" Alexandra Grimal.

He played in Antonin Leymarie's "Magnetic Ensemble", "Real thing # 3" and "Tower-Bridge" by Marc Ducret, "The Riddle of the Tympanum" by Fred Pallem for several years and now has a beautiful discography.

More recently, he began writing music and honored commissions, notably the state commission: "Borg and Théa" for the Béla quartet, the subtraction of flowers and the mastery of the Opéra de Lyon, but also "Entre cabbage and wolf "and" The angel of the weird "for Noémi Boutin and S.Hélary, or" The energy of the ceiling "for Surnatural Orchestra Albert Marcoeur and the Béla quartet.

In addition, throughout his career during the creation of live shows and concerts, he collaborated with the artists: T.Bonvalet, K.Davis, E.Caron, J.Pontier, D.Chouillet, C.Palotaï, P .Minton, Nosfell, Matthieu A, JP.Drouet, F.Sarhan, T.Blondeau, G.Pesson, R.Cendo, F.Marillier, N.Frize, A.Messager, R.Thierry, B.Coupey, C. Pavet, F.Cotinaud, P.Cueco, V.Bouchot. MH. Fournier, G.Siracusa, Y.Maresz, L.Naon, L.Fagin, A.Serre-Milan, E.Biston, A.Martinez. "

"Julien Boudart is born in Paris in 1978. In 1995 he began to experiment on analog synthesizers and DIY electronic instruments some specific mixture of techno, free jazz and cinematic narrative music. At the same time he also started a theorical activity that never stopped since then. In the following decade, he focused on improvisation, blending his electronic sounds with the ones of acoustic musicians. He developped on the Korg MS-20 (instrument he's playing since 1996) a very personnal, vocal, sound. He has since been involved in many kind of projects, from musical theater to radiophonic creation, from martian rockabilly to some energic though abstract free improvisation. The ceremonial, political and magical aspects of music are the main concern of most of his present projects and researches."
