Recorded at Tedesco Studio, in Paramus, New Jersey, on April 29th, 2018 by Tom Tedesco.
"For as long as I've known Adam Caine - which is around 20 years now - I've always been impressed by his openness as an artist and guitarist, the way he never puts himself in any kind of stylistic box. Much like his great 2006 trio record Pipe, Transmissions covers a broad aesthetic range in a way that feels both perfectly natural and appealingly enigmatic. I love the contrast, for example, between the brawny, Tribute to Jack Johnson-esque jamming of "The Core" and the elegance and reserve of tracks like "Night Driver" and "The Girls," which have a spare, poetic quality that reminds me of Jimmy Giuffre's classic late-'50s trios with Jim Hall. There's also fuzzed-out funk ("The Spiral"), beautifully airy swing in a Paul Motian Trio vein ("Cloud Over") and warped long-form abstraction that would make late out-guitar legend Masayuki Takayanagi proud ("Hell Awaits").
What's so impressive is that this excellent band - with Snarky Puppy co-founder Bob Lanzetti also on guitar, eminent avant-jazz bassist Adam Lane, and wizardly drum veteran Billy Mintz, plus the liquid-toned alto saxist Nick Lyons guesting on one track- moves between styles without the slightest bit of fuss. They engage completely with the needs of each piece while retaining a quality of patience and deep listening that runs throughout the record. I have no idea how to sum up Transmissions as a whole, other than to say it's an album of subtle, thoughtful, surprising instrumental music for two guitars, bass and drums. In other words, it's an Adam Caine record through and through."-Hank Shteamer, Dark Forces Swing Blind Punches

His 2006 recording New Magical Kingdom, was recently featured in the Penguin Jazz Guide 1001 Best Records Ever Made, and his most recent recording, Ashcan Ranting received a myriad of critical praise including four stars in Downbeat. His current projects include his Full Throttle Orchestra, a nine piece ensemble formed to realize his extended jazz orchestral compositions, The Adam Lane Trio, featuring legendary reedist Vinny Golia, Four Corners, a co-lead ensemble with reedist Ken Vandermark, and an ongoing solo project that combines unique processed double bass improvisations with Lane's original story telling. As a sideman he has performed with an eclectic mix of musicians, from tenor great John Tchicai, to alto iconoclast Richard Tabnik, to rock legend Tom Waits. Lane's compositions have been praised for their audacity and originality. Sam Prestiani of Jazziz says of Lane's writing: "His confidence and confrontational prowess as well as his abiding sense of lyricism and heavy-groove power place him in the lineage of forward-jazz adventurism." And Bill Meyer writes in Downbeat, "Lane's music is genuine, accessible, fun. The music is deeply in touch with the essential pleasures of earwig-worthy tunes, fat bluesy grooves, and sheer tonal beauty." (Downbeat Jan 2011) Lane studied composition at Wesleyan University with Anthony Braxton, and at California Institute of the Arts with Wadada Leo Smith. In 1996 he received a Paternings Scholarship for study at the Darmstadt School for New Music where he studied double bass with Steffano Scodanibbio, and attended master classes in composition with Karlheinz Stockhausen." ^ Hide Bio for Adam Lane • Show Bio for Billy Mintz "Billy Mintz was born in Queens, New York.
