Recordings from concerts throughout Portugal between 2016-2021 from pocket trumpeter Sei Miguel's quartet with Fala Mariam on alto trombone, Bruno Silva on electric guitar and Pedro Castello-Lopes on percussion & drums (Pandeiro & Kalengo), uniquely orchestrated works often simplifying larger orchestral concepts, clarifying these warmly embraceable original Miguel compositions.

Recordings live in Portuguese territory, between 2016 and 2021, by Andre Goncalves.
"For me, the main technical challenge in jazz, a music genre that became autonomous gradually in the twentieth century, was to combine and match a greater musical demand with a fair deal of humility as regards orchestral means. The trios or quartets I have been showcasing my work on the road, for many years now, provide the most refined examples of my writing; sometimes simple tunes, sometimes a radically simplified version of larger pieces in the orchestration concept. These are, in fact, my Jazz Standards... My life has revolved around them, and still does."-Sei Miguel, January 2023
Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Sei Miguel "Plays his trumpet with complete awareness of the whole Jazz history while dealing, as a music director, with the full spectrum of sound sources in a broad range of innovative (and often strange) solutions, including frequent use of electronics. He has created his own music system, allowing him to take his open pieces to a high degree of perfection. Director, arranger and trumpeter, Sei Miguel considers himself a simple jazzman, which, he says, isn't always easy. Born in 1961, Paris, lived in Brazil and France until settling down in Portugal during the 80's. Since 1986 he has been directing formations of variable geometry. Having performed in Portugal, Germany, Italy and Brazil, among his many regular collaborators are not only guitarists Rafael Toral and Manuel Mota, but also extraordinaire trombone player and painter Fala Mariam and virtuoso percussionist César Burago. Miguel has also written music for theater and ballet." ^ Hide Bio for Sei Miguel • Show Bio for Fala Mariam "Born in Lisbon. Some academic training did not foster in her an interest for musical creation. In 1980, during a trip to the north of India, she intuited the sacred fire of true music, that she will find again in the more initiatic jazz and the gratifying discovery of several trombonists. Sei Miguel´s "sideman" since 1983, she partakes in all his works." ^ Hide Bio for Fala Mariam • Show Bio for Bruno Silva Bruno Silva, also known as Ondness, Serpente, is a guitarist known for the groups Canzana, lopness, Olive Troops SOS, Osso, Sabre, and Somália. ^ Hide Bio for Bruno Silva • Show Bio for Pedro Castello-Lopes Pedro Castello-Lopes is a percussionist currently living in Lisboa, Portugal. He is a member of Ensemble MIA, and Variable Geometry Orchestra. ^ Hide Bio for Pedro Castello-Lopes
