Recorded at Studio Tonus Arcus, in Berlin, Germany, on October, 10th, 2023, by Dietrich Petzold.
"An unusual string trio that defies conventional sound norms and definitions. Erhard Hirt plays Dobro, electric guitar, and electronics; Klaus KŸrvers handles an old double bass; and Dietrich Petzold plays violin, tenor violin, clavichord, and bowed metal. Hirt, known for his work with XPACT II and King †bŸ OrchestrŸ, is considered one of the most convincing "electronic" guitarists of the last 40 years, though he remains relatively unknown outside of the Creative Sources label and Berlin scene. Klaus KŸrvers is a pioneer of free jazz in Germany, while Petzold has been heard in the string quartet dis/con/sent alongside Ernesto Rodrigues, Guilherme Rodrigues, and Matthias BauerÑa strong reference among improvised string ensembles.
Their album Weiterbauen focuses on exploring sound with applied "squeaking science," rotating glissandos near the bridge, and unconventional sonorities. Petzold's violin often shifts to a rare tenor violin, while KŸrvers' intuitive bass and his "bowed metal" add unique timbres. The trio's sound intertwines with Hirt's precise electronic guitar work to create fascinating sonic interactions and creative experimentation. This trio avoids referencing well-known artists like Derek Bailey and Fred Frith, instead developing their own tonal balances and tensions in a blend of serious playfulness and colorful soundscapes that are truly original."-Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg
