Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"The versatile composer/performer who has worked with Cibo Matto, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Mike Watt and many others, creates a third CD for the Tzadik Oracles series highlighting her fascinating new instrumental approach. Mixing funky beats, hip samples and instruments both acoustic and electric, Yuka's dramatic sense of sound and color creates a hypnotic groove for young moderns. Endlessly listenable, her first CD in over five years is also her very best!"-Tzadik

Artist Biographies

Dougie Bowne: guitar. "I'm a musician/composer/producer. I've worked with a ton of people you might know, among them- Iggy Pop, John Cale, Chris Whitley, Marrianne Faithfull, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jack Bruce, Brian Eno, Arto Lindsay, Casandra Wilson, Laurie Anderson, Marissa Monte, Caetano Velosa, Tom Verlaine, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, Dave Douglas, Cibo Matto, I was a member of the Lounge Lizards for much of my adult life... blah blah... too many others to think of right now. By the way, when I say worked with, I mean worked with, not been in the same room with once."

"Cellist Erik Friedlander started studying music at an early age, beginning at 5 with guitar, and then at 8, cello lessons. He grew up in a house filled with music, as his father, an avid music lover, made countless mixtapes which played daily in their home. Erik spent his twenties honing his skills as a player and an improviser and quickly became a sought after studio musician, performing on the Downtown music scene and with artists as diverse as The Mountain Goats, John Zorn, Dave Douglas and Courtney Love. Erik's desire to actively participate in the swirl of music styles he was surrounded by led him to find new ways to play the cello and drives his solo work which is varied and unusual."

"Michael Leonhart is a New York-based trumpeter, composer, producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. In Leonhart's work, one can hear the fluency in the multiple genres he has deeply immersed himself in over the years. Whether composing for his Orchestra or for film, his sound is unmistakable. At age 17, Michael was honored as the youngest Grammy recipient in history, cited as the most outstanding musician in a U.S. high school. That same year ABC World News named him "Person of the Week". He has since gone on to collaborate with artists as diverse as Questlove and Wu-tang Clan to Meryl Streep & David Byrne."
