"Sculpted Sound consists of a series of twenty metal sculptures created by Derek Shiel to be performed on as a set of percussion instruments or to be exhibited as sculpture.

When exhibited as individual sculptures they require a space large enough for their formal effect to be fully appreciated.

When heard as instruments they provoke a more immediate response, enticing the listener by the variety of their sounds and distinctive appearance.

The sound sculptures were created initially in response to Derek Shiel�s hearing an early recording of the composer John Cage�s 1st Construction (in Metal). His fascination with this composition coincided with finding a heap of metal components making similar sounds in the storeroom of his father�s electrical business in Dublin. These items formed the basic material for the first sound sculptures, which continue to be constructed from found metal objects."-Derek Shiel

Trevor Taylor is an improvising musician based in the UK, performing electroacoustic improvisation. He is best known for his band Circuit, and his associations with saxophonists Evan Parker and Paul Dunmall. He is also the label leader for FMR (Future Music Records).
