Eichenberger initially planned to become a professional photographer. However, he instead took on a career in music. He became a music teacher and obtained a wind music conductor. Since 1982 he teaches saxophone and clarinet lessons. Since 1977 he has been active in improvised music, especially as a saxophonist. He played in all sorts of groups and projects, but in 1982 he also started working as a solo artist. Most of the albums he recorded in the eighties were solo albums. He worked with, among others, the Swiss drummer Jacques Widmer (recordings in 1983), the Mytha Horns, the pianist Fredi Lüscher and drummer Ivano Torre. Around 1995 he was a member of the Double You Sea Fields group, which played with Ikue Mori. In the second half of the nineties he led a project with what you could call an improvisation big band, the 'Domino' project. He gave concerts in all kinds of European countries, also in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as America. Eichenberger has many different prizes and awards." ^ Hide Bio for Markus Eichenberger • Show Bio for Dirk Marwedel "Dirk Marwedel Born 1959. Since 1985 Dirk Marwedel has been working in the area of improvised music and related musical concepts as well as in interdisciplinary projects with performance, sound installation, film, dance, theater, sculpture and painting. In continuous interplay with different groups as well as soloist he has developed sounding techniques and preparations with which he easily exceeds the limits of familiar concepts of the sound spectrum of the saxophone and irritates listening habits. The permanent process of material and sound enhancement can also lead to play on hoses, balloons, with water or other sound bodies, even beyond the original instrument. With his work on slate slabs ("TonSchiefer") and the sculptures by the sculptor couple Livia Kubach and Michael Kropp, Dirk Marwedel, who also trained as a sculptor, explores and develops the sound qualities of stone. Solistically, Dirk Marwedel draws particular attention to dynamic and structural movement. Dense monolithic sound currents can contrast with fine tissues, which are reduced to only a few senses, sequences of classical toning complement each other with grotesque or fragile, silent, brittle or bursting overflowing forms beyond the chromatically tempered tonal space. The limits and meanings of sound, sound and sound are moving, touching, mixing and differentiating. Silence is perceived as a fundamental element of musical experience. Central themes in the area of performance (for example in the case of sound video performance> no change changing <) are the inevitability and irreversibility of movement and development. With concentrated acoustic and visual material, processes that are fragmented in the phenomena of repetition and change, memory and present are perceived in the light of their incessant passing over one another. Even more direct than in purely concertante performances is the irritation and questioning of fixed, automated boundaries and interpretations and the opening of unexpected perceptions. Recent works such as the "fields of intercourse", the "court paintings" and the project "Living Sculpture" also deal with the center of perception, the perceiving and perceptive human beings themselves, with their modes, the Familiar, the stranger, to meet oneself. Dirk Marwedel has appeared in Europe and Canada. He lives in Wiesbaden and is co-founder and organizer of the HumaNoise congress - day improvised music." ^ Hide Bio for Dirk Marwedel • Show Bio for Charlotte Hug "Charlotte Hug: musician (viola & voice), composer, teacher, media artist, visual artist, Hug´s innovative musical-visual solo performances in distinctive locations and her interdisciplinary work have created an international furore. She has played in locations such as the tunnels of the Rhône glacier, the House of Detention, an underground former prison in London, a half-demolished bunker in Humboldthain Berlin, the hot healing springs in the spa town of Baden and the dockyard in Coph on the Irish Atlantic coast. This musician of the extreme is constantly pushing the boundaries of her instrument and has reinvented the viola - and this with an instrument built by the Viennese violin maker J.G Thir in 1763 . She has developed a number of techniques, including the "soft bow technique", which enables her to play up to eight voices. Hug´s speciality is also a blend of viola and vocals, which has given rise to her distinctive tonal language. In the visual arena, as well as in a musical context, Hug´s sound-drawings "Son-Icons" have found international recognition. These she has used to develop her own compositional method. Hence her spatial and video-scores ranging from solo pieces to orchestra works, such as the orchestral work "Nachtplasmen" for Son-Icons and video-score, which was premiered with the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2011. She has had solo exhibitions at venues such as Swissnex San Francisco, the Sirius Arts Centre Cobh, Cork in Ireland and the Museum of Art Lucerne. Hug is also fully active as a concert performer, soloist, composer and conductor of her own works at major festivals inEurope, North America, Latin America and Canada, such as Tage für Neue Musik Zurich, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Berliner Festspiele MaerzMusik, San Francisco International Arts Festival. Her extensive discography, including three solo CDs, as well as improvised music from international collaborations is distributed worldwide by important labels. There are collaborations with international greats, such as the photographer and film maker Alberto Venzago, the theatre and opera director Jossie Wieler, concerts with artists such as Joan Jeanrenaud from the Kronos Quartet, Maggie Nicols, Barry Guy, Phil Minton, Larry Ochs, Evan Parker, Elliott Sharp, etc. Hug gives master classes in improvisation and "instant composing". She also gives lectures and performance lectures in the field of "Transdisciplinarity in the Arts". She is a visiting professor at several universities and art academies including McGill University Montreal, CNMAT of the University of California Berkeley and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 2008 she has held the post of lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts in interdisciplinary studies. Hug lives in Zurich and on the road. Having completed her studies in fine arts and music, she received various awards and composition commissions, from organisations such as Pro Helvetia, Lucerne Festival, etc. She has been "artist in residence" in London, Paris, Cork 2005 Capital of Culture, and in Berlin. In 2006 she was awarded the city of Zurich prize for composition.
