"Sylvaine Helary's new quartet explores a more electric branch of her work as a composer, creating here heady melodies, romantic sizzles, amplified rhythmic hordes and waves of misty ritornelles. Each piece thus collected, like timeless portraits of imaginary characters and situations, leaves in its wake the traces of a captivating soundtrack. Acting as a bridge between the very English "Canterbury" scene, contemporary jazz and experimental pop, this group produces the sound of a life in scintillating and phosphorescent colors, a refreshing and bewitching "Glowing Life" promising bright futures."-Ayler
Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Sylvaine Helary "Sylvaine Hélary, enjoying a solid classical training, having plunged into the vertigo of improvisation with Bernard Lubat, this flutist is one of those soloists who establish a natural link between contemporary music, jazz and various currents of new music. Her curiosity leads her to projects that are often multidisciplinary, such as Spring. She was part of the Surnatural Orchestra for ten years. She plays in duet with Noémi Boutin (Myssil and show young public Entre Chou and Loup), recently includes the new sextet of Marc Ducret (Chronicles of the frozen sea), Ensemble Dédales by Dominique Pifarély, Didier Levallet's quintet Croise), Ève Risser (White Desert Orchestra), Morgen Naughties (Tam De Villiers and Karsten Hochapfel), and Michel Édelin's quintet (Flute Fever). She is invited to be part of the new creation of Alexandra Grimal (Steam over rice) and Jozef Dumoulin's next quintet. She collaborates with many musicians such as Robin Fincker, John Niekrasz, Marco Quaresimin, Nicole Mitchell, Edward Perraud, YJN (D. Yvinec), Dgiz, Dominique A and Fantazio. New York (Kris Davis, Matt Mitchell, Tim Berne, Dan Weiss, Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Rainey) and Chicago (The Bridge # 5 with Eve Risser, Mike Reed, Fred Lonberg-Holm). She realizes her dreams of writing and composition in her acoustic quartet Spring Roll (Antonin Rayon, Sylvain Lemêtre and Hugues Mayot), her trio (Antonin Rayon and Emmanuel Scarpa) and her new quartet Glowing Life Ray, Benjamin Glibert, John Niekrasz)." ^ Hide Bio for Sylvaine Helary • Show Bio for Antonin Rayon "Antonin Rayon (* 1976) is a French jazz musician (piano, Hammond organ, Clavinet). After studying percussion at the Conservatoire de Nantes with Gérard Hieronimus, he evolved as a self-made jazz musician and travelled often to New York, where he studied drums at the New School and at the Drummer's Collective with Billy Hart, Adam Nussbaum, Charli Persip, Mike Clark and Marvin Smitty Smith. He has played or recorded with Thôt, Le Gros Cube, Caroline, Emmanuel Bex, Stéphane Belmondo and Benoît Delbecq. Christophe is one of the busiest drummers on the French jazz scene, but he is also well known on the European jazz scene, playing regularly with Simon Spang Hansen & M. Bitran in Denmark; Ronan Guilfoyle, Michael Buckley & Tommy Halferty in Ireland; Mauro Gargano in Italy, and Julian Siegel in Great Britain. He has also performed in Tokyo & Moscow, and has been part of international jazz festivals such as "L'Olympia" in Paris; Montreal Jazz Festival; and the Barcelona Jazz Festival among others. Christophe's drumming can also be heard on several movie soundtracks. He has also played as a sideman with many jazz musicians including Ravi Coltrane, Drew Gress, and Chris Brubeck, and has played for several years with Guillaume Saint-James in his Jazzarium ensemble." ^ Hide Bio for Christophe Lavergne
