"For over 30 years Swiss saxophone player Christoph Gallio has been the driving force behind the trio DAY & TAXI. His compositions delicately oscillate between "new music" and "avant jazz" and are concisely focused and structured in his personal, unique way. Unaffected by musical trends DAY & TAXI excels at the difficult, richly rewarding balancing act between composition and improvisation. Their music utilizes a wide array of styles while also incorporating unexpected, brilliant infusions of poesy, sentimentality, cliche and kitsch. All this and more is allowed. The sublimity and composure in handling these diverse elements is a primary characteristic of the unique DAY & TAXI sound. This group focus is echoed and amplified by the individual voices of the members of the band in an organic and accomplished manner.
DAY & TAXI plays contemporary music which draws from the past, perceives the present and contributes to its future. The working band DAY & TAXI was founded in 1988 as a quartet. The current members are since 2013 Silvan Jeger on bass, voice, electronics and since 2018 Gerry Hemingway on drums. DAY & TAXI released 7 CDs and two LPs ("live in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Taipei", 2005, WAY 2016). DAY & TAXI was on tour in Kanada, USA, Russia, Kasachstan, Japan, China, Europe, Argentina and Chile and played on Jazzfestivals of Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Quebec City, Arkhangelsk, Moskau, New York (VISION), Pärnu, Almaty, Yokohama, Bolzano (Jazzfestival Trento), Zürich (TAKTLOS)."-Percaso
"I've long been a fan, and 'Way' is a striking, beautifully-conceived album. All compositions are by the leader, and they're succinct and pellucidly-structured - as are his improvisations. ... Gallio is his own man, and a real musical thinker."-Jazz Journal, Andy Hamilton, London 2017
