The late Masayuki Takayanagi started in the 50's as an active improviser in the Japanese scene, working with his own New Directions trio, Three Blind Mice, April is the Cruelest Month, and Axis Another Revolvable Thing. He also was one of Japan's earliest noise guitar improvisers. He worked with Keith Rowe, John Zorn, and Abe Kaoru, amongst countless others. "The new Bent Spoon Trio album takes a new approach from the last, this time working with small(er) track lengths. Chadbourne subtitled this a "C&W Opera by Eugene Chadbourne," and it's presented as a song cycle of protest songs - originals and covers - along with a good dose of social commentary. As presented it's an avant-garde country opera meant to offend Senator Helms and his ilk, and Helm's smug image graces the cover. The music features members of the Violent Femmes, Don Helms, Jimmy Carl Black, and Lol Coxhill, working in Chadbourne's typically twisted and pointed musical world. Chicago's Nathan Koch is the mastermind behind the music, an SF affiliate and gamer whose 8-bit aesthetic influences his drifting beats and swelling electronics. This is the 3rd release under the Emulsion name, along with a track on the David Bowie tribute record "Contamination."
Dark electro-acoustic constructions in an early work of the band as a trio, creating mysteriously sombre environments. Winter's End was the result of two years work of writing and recording, which shows in the sophistication and warmth of the sound they produce. They relate more to the industrial sund world, but without the dour gloominess - instead they create a hopeful darkness from which buoyant swells emerge, transporting the listener into captivating sound environments. Incredible complex and driving rock from Ruins drummer Tatsuya Yoshida, the 4th as a trio under the name Korekyojinn. These are incredible compositions, precise twisting-turning instrumental pieces with a momentum that should make Robert Fripp shudder.
