"Andrew Cyrille, Mark Dresser, and Marty Ehrlich have formed a consummately cooperative jazz group, and C/D/E is their first recording. On tunes like Cyrille's melancholy "Aubade," Ehrlich's melody statement segues into some magically delicate group improvisation. Here, Cyrille limits himself to tiny cowbell hits, Ehrlich plaintively explores the tune, and Dresser dances around a funky walking line; no musician steps into the spotlight, yet the music is never without focus. "Many facets blending in a unique sound: if one had to give the recipe for the success of this Vienna band, one would probably have to point to the great variety of the musical perspectives which converge in efzeg; and which, according to the founder member Boris Hauf, are a major assett. "Swinging jazz accordionists have always been a rarity but Erik Frank, who had a hit in 1944 with "Novelty Accordion," has often stood apart from the crowd. A ritual soundtrack from Nick Soudnick, for an installation at the AKHE Engineer Theatre. AKHE is an absurdist theatre group in St. Petersburg, Russian, pushing theatre to it's limits with extremely minimalistic props and funding. Soudnick is, of course, the prolific sound artist who started his career with the excellent industrial/instrument-building band ZGA.
2006 soundtrack for the AKHE Engineer Theatre from ZGA's Nick Soudnick. This work falls into the avant-classical arena and is performed by a large brass and string group with a chorus, supplemented by metal percussion, electronics and samples.
