Cora, Tom / David Moss: Cargo Cult Revival

Essential performers on the 80s Downtown NY scene, cellist Tom Cora and percussionist & vocalist David Moss released this album in 1983 on Fred Frith's Rift label, ten active and often absurd duo improvisation of informed interaction, intertwining strings, drums, odd rhythmic sources and strange vocal utterances, yielding to both serious improv and whimsical notions.

Dorner, Axel / Roger Turner / Ra Ra da Boff: London Leipzig Berlin
(Euphorium)

Ra Ra da Boff is an alter ego for keyboardist Oliver Schwerdt, here performing on electric organ in a trio with trumpeter Axel Dörner and percussionist Roger Turner, the three turning free improvisation on its ear through extended and unusual approaches to their instruments in an impressionistic set of three impressive and slowly tumultuous extended conversations; exemplary!

Four Letter Words (Piet / Wark / Harris): Blow

The Chicago trio of tenor saxophonist Jake Wark, pianist Matt Piet and drummer Bill Harris in a forceful and exuberant trio that grew out of the weekly free improvisation workshop "Sound of the City" at Constellation, initially a collective that developed a set of compositions from each member, presented here in their exceptional and exciting debut album.

Harriott, Joe Quintet: Free Form & Abstract Revisited [2 CDs]

Two essential early 60s release from famed UK saxophonist Joe Harriott, an innovator bringing free jazz concepts to the British audience with his quintet of Shake Kane on trumpet & flugelhorn, Pat Smythe on piano, Coleridge Goode on double bass and Phil Seaman on drums, referencing the new forms of jazz from US artists like Don Cherry and Ornette Coleman.

Jones, Jean Claude (JC) / and friends: Nucleous

The fifth in bassist, guitarist and Kadima label-leader JC Jones "Distance Series", works assembled through virtual sessions with associated artists, Jones performing on Spanish guitar which he plays as a lap guitar, on Nucleous creating a set of five unusual vocal works with internationally reknown vocalists Meira Asher, Esti Kenan-Ofri, Anat Pick and Josef Sprinzak.

Argentinian sound artist based in NYC Cecilia Lopez engages fellow Brandon Lopez Trio double bassist Lopez and drummer Gerald Cleaver for a performance of improvisation, installation and architecture, using woven wire nets filled with instruments and hung from Roulette Intermedia's ceiling to act as a complex feedback organism with which the trio interacts.

PEK Solo: For Alto (For Anthony Braxton)

In 1969 alto saxophonist Anthony Braxton released an unprecedented solo saxophone album, For Alto, dedicating each piece to a composer or player, including Leroy Jenkins and John Cage; Boston improviser David Peck took this album as inspiration to create his own extended solo improvisation as a tribute to Braxton, performing on a classic Selmer Balanced Action saxophone.

Schwerdt, Oliver: Storming Bauhaus [2CDs]

Nace, Bill: One Note (Solo Guitar 2) [VINYL]
