Recorded live at Moldejazz 2018, in Modle, Norway, by Tor Breivik.
"Live with Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and The MaXx is really a story of three young Swedes, Oscar Gronberg, Petter Kraft and Tomas Jarmyr meeting in college before starting their formal jazz education in Trondheim. When The MaXx won the prestigious Jazz talent award (JazZtipendiatet) at Molde International Jazz Festival in 2017, they decided to use the opportunity to invite some of their best friends and amazing musicians from their college years, both guitarist Anton Toorell and trombone player Petter Hangsel met the guys from The MaXx at Fridheim Folkhogskola in 2006. A few years later Oscar, Petter and Tomas reunited in Trondheim, and The MaXx was born.
The MaXx developed the music on Live through hours of jamming in their studio in an old German bunker in Trondheim. Simultaneously with the music slowly taking shape, a theme dealing with the youth's fascination for dystopian sci-fi, involuntary heroes and time travels evolved. Combined with their love for rhythmical riffs and extreme musical shifts a new piece of music appeared. Some people have called it an abstract rock opera. The MaXx tells us that the what this project is really about is to amplify the undisguised energy and joy that always has been the core of band. Advice: Live is grasping the steaming atmosphere in the theatre a hot summer night in Molde, and should be played on a high volume."-MNJ
Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Oscar Gronberg "Grönberg is a graduate of the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium in 2011,[1] where he joined the Hanna Paulsberg Concept.[2] O. G. Trio, including Trygve Waldemar Fiske (double bass) and Tomas Järmyr (drums), is a new, young, creative, exciting and fearless trio that played its debut concert in 2009. Together they create a world of groove, improvisation, humor and playful interaction, all based on Grönberg's subtle and original compositions. The trio is at the same time deeply respectful of the compositions, but also irreverent and free in their interactions over the well-established and endangered species line. The music is inspired by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Ahmad Jamal and Andrew Hill." ^ Hide Bio for Oscar Gronberg • Show Bio for Petter Kraft Petter Kraft is a jazz saxophonist from Trondheim, Norway, who also plays the guitar. He is known for the groups Megalodon Collective, Operasjon Hegge, Rønnings Jazzmaskin, The MaXx. ^ Hide Bio for Petter Kraft • Show Bio for Tomas Jarmyr "Tomas Järmyr (1987, Sweden) was born into a musical family with both parents being teachers at the local music school. This is where he discovered the drums at age 2. He started taking lessons at the age of 7, got his first real drum kit the following year, and joined the music school orchestra around the same time. As a young teenager, Tomas was already playing in several local bands and ensembles, spanning from punk and metal to jazz and folk music. It was during these years he really started developing his personal style of drumming characterized by great force, finesse, intensity and a sheer endless control over textures. After more specialized studies in jazz and improvisation during high school and college, Tomas moved to Trondheim, Norway in 2008 where he obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from "Jazzlinja" (Jazz department) at NTNU university. During his student years he manifested his musical expression and expanded his network of likeminded collaborators both nationally and internationally. While pushing his own bands and projects, he also started working more and more as a sideman and session drummer, all of which led to extensive touring mainly in Norway, Scandinavia and Europe. In 2015 he temporarily joined the Italian jazz/metal monster Zu, picking up the sticks after Gabe Serbian (The Locust), until the return of original drummer Jacopo Battaglia in 2018. In January 2017, Tomas joined Motorpsycho, an internationally acclaimed, award winning band that has been, and still is, a driving force in Norwegian and European alternative rock music since 1989." ^ Hide Bio for Tomas Jarmyr • Show Bio for Mia Marlen Berg Mia Marlen Berg is a singer and composer from Norway.
