"Tobias Delius was born on 15 July 1964 in Oxford, England. He began playing saxophone in 1980 in the German Ruhr region. In 1983/84 he lived in Mexico City where he played in the "Cuarteto Mexicano de Jazz" led by pianist Francixco Téllez.

Delius moved to Amsterdam in 1984 and studied for a short while at the Sweelinck Conservatorium. He quickly became involved with Amsterdam improvisers and dropped his studies to immerse himself in the improvised music scene. In 1990 he was awarded the Podiumprijs from the organisation Stichting Jazz in Nederland. He has worked in Europe and overseas with such musicians as Steve Lacy (October Meeting '91), Louis Moholo's Viva-la-black (South Africa '93), Bill Frisell, Mark Feldman and Trio Clusone (Clusone Jazz '93), Misha Mengelberg ("Pollo de Mare", Angelica '96 in Bologna), Steve Beresford ("Signals for Tea", Vancouver '98), Jeb Bishop, Kent Kessler, Hamid Drake (Chicago 2001) and Ray Anderson (Rotterdam, '01).

Tibias is currently based in Berlin where ihe is an active member of the improvised community performing regularly with Axel Dörner, Christian Lillinger, Clayton Thomas, Liz Albee and many others."

"Saxophonist Daniele D'Agaro sounds like a natural match for great expat bebop trumpeter Benny Bailey on their 1999 album, Hidden Treasures (Nota). The two recorded nine rare compositions by saxophonist Don Byas; D'Agaro does an excellent job evoking the full-bodied tenor sound of the 40s and 50s, even as the swift rhythm section--including drummer Han Bennink--helps ground the music in the here and now. But that's just one trick in D'Agaro's bottomless bag. Gentle Ben, recorded with American bassist Mark Helias and Italian drummer Umberto Trombetta "Gandhi" and released the same year on the same label, includes a traditional Portuguese tune, a version of Monk's "Four in One," and a slew of catchy originals, all of which demonstrate D'Agaro's equal ease with playing straight and playing out there. Born in 1958 in Udine, Italy, near the Slovenian border, D'Agaro discovered jazz and improvised music in his teens, and before long he was working with Italian avant-gardist Andrea Centazzo. In addition to the tenor, he plays the clarinet, an instrument that lets him reveal his heritage in a folksy, melodic style. In 1983 he moved to Amsterdam, where he formed the trio Lingua Franca with cellist Tristan Honsinger and bassist Ernst Glerum; the group has done everything from interpreting Italian folk tunes to collaborating with a Senegalese singer. He returned to Udine in 1996, where he now leads, among other projects, the trio with Helias and Trombetta. For his Chicago debut D'Agaro will be joined by trombonist Jeb Bishop, bassist Kent Kessler, and drummer Tim Daisy; they'll improvise for most of the show, but reportedly they might throw in a Byas tune or two. "Composer/bassist Giovanni Maier started his professional career in 1986 at the age of 21, after finishing his formal studies in classical music at the "G. Tartini" Music Academy in Trieste and having pursued independently his personal interest in jazz music.

In 1986 he co-founded the Transition Jazz Group and, with this and other ensembles, began to write and perform original music in Italy and Europe.

In 1989, he formed his first ensemble to perform his own compositions, and has since recorded over 80 albums featuring his work.

As a member of ensembles, he has performed in many concerts throughout Europe, in North and South America, Japan, North Africa and the Middle East.

As a bassist he features on over 240 albums, including recordings with Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, the Italian Instabile Orchestra, Cecil Taylor, Anthony Braxton, Tim Berne, Marc Ribot, Keith and Julie Tippett, Louis Moholo, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Pino Minafra, Roberto Ottaviano, Carlo Actis Dato, Tiziano Tononi, Daniele Cavallanti, Stefano Battaglia, Michele Rabbia, Chris Speed, Scott Amendola as well as with other leading figures in creative music.

He is currently active as a solo contrabassist, composing for, and performing and recording with, a variety of ensemble projects.

Giovanni Maier is also actively engaged in the field of education through the presentation of workshops and as lecturer at the "G. Tartini" Music Academy in Trieste."

"Zlatko Kaucic: Born February 1953 in Postojna, Slovenia. In the Early 70's he moved to Italy where he toured and recorded with the group Hero. In 1975 he was involved with the music co-operative Swiss, playing with Irene Schweitzer, Radu Malfatti, Duško Goykovich and Allen Blairman, among the others. In 1976 he moved to Barcelona and began playing in clubs and festivals all over the country with people such as Peter Delphinich, Eric Peter, Tete Montoliu, Claude Guillot, Paul Stocker, Mike Osborne, Burton Greene, John Lewis, Steve Lacy and Kenny Wheeler, as well as giving solo concerts.

In 1979 he toured Portugal with Paul Stocker and then joined The trio with Portuguese bassist Ze Eduardo and pianist Antonio Pinho, which played extensively in Portugal as well as in Macau (China), and subsequently backed Don Rendall, Michael Garrik and Portugese tenorist Rao Kyao.From 1981-83 Zlatko taught drums in the Barcelona "Taller de musicos" jazz school and participated in jazz seminars with Chuck Israels, Ron Mclure and David Schnitter.

Since 1984 he has lived in Amsterdam (Holland). Zlatko has played the "North sea jazz festival" twice and plays with his own trio which tours Spain regularly. He also plays with an octet and composes music for theatre and dance groups. Zlatko's specialty is an unique solo percussions performance that expresses his own personal style.

He has been twice in U.S.A.: 1987 - Itacaca (New York): workshop for theater + music and 1989 - world festival Atlanta (G.A.) with European jazz quintet.

Zlatko has played in Holland with such a diverse musicans like Misha Mandelberg, Toon Rose, Paul Stocker, Sean Bergin, Arnold Dojewerd, Wiebe Wilbers (Skidoo), Frank Graso Big band, Peter Guidi, Paul Bley, Esiet "Okun" Esiet, Michael More, John Patituci, Paolo Fresu, Phone Booth (Theater company), wiht Lisa Pooh (Dance Theater), etc.

1992 he return to Slovenia where he began playing different musical projects like with Paul Bley (Lent festival; Maribor), Steve Lacy, Thelonius Monk Project (Kontrada fest; Kanal ob Soči) with Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, Chico Freeman, George Cables, Albert Mangelsdorff, Keeny Wheeler, Alexander Balanescu, Dave Biney, Paul McCandless, Irene Aebi, Trevor Wats, Javier Girotto, Frank Gratkowski, Szilárd Mezei, Marc Ribot, Greg Cohen, Saadet Türköz, Peter Brötzmann, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Luis Sclavis, Evan Parker, Herb Robertson, Javier Girotto, Agusti Fernandez, Oliver Lake, Phil Minton, AB Baars, Johanes Bauer, Joëlle Léandre, Barry Guy, Maya Homburger, Lotte Anker etc and making music for two documentaries (Kino atelje Gorica) and solo Performances, poetry and dance.
