Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"This session came out of a collision of overlaps following the first Tierras Sonidas fest down in Far West. Veronica took us all on a sound walk at the art farm outside of Lubbock where we listened to the wind from the perspective of the tumbleweeds. Sounds came out like pouring liquid into a vessel, something slightly lighter than molasses. Hollow and full at once.

We will likely never be in the same room at the same time again, but I think we made the music that needed to be made. I remember chugging down black coffee with my horn pulling down at my neck. We barely got above a whisper, privileging the quiet not out of fear but respect. Static but continuously emerging."-Editions Glomar

"Anne-Françoise Jacques is a sound artist based in Montreal, Canada. She is interested in amplification, erratic sound production devices and the construction of idiosyncratic contraptions and systems. Her particular focus is on low technology, trivial objects and unpolished sound. Active in performance since 2004, Jacques has performed at venues and festivals throughout North America and Europe, collaborating with Diktat, Martin Tétreault, Ignaz Schick, Éric Normand and Miguel A. Garcia, amongst many others. Jacques also has presented installations as half of the duo Minibloc and has composed soundtracks for animated films in an ongoing collaborative project with Julie Doucet. "Veronica Anne Salinas is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, educator, writer, and Deep Listener currently based in Chicago, IL and Texas (US). She works at the intersections of art and creative research in ecology, sonic arts, text, archives, magic, sculpture, video, and performance. Her interdisciplinary projects explore embodied sonic experiences, the tension between becoming and unraveling, feral sensualities, ecological and landscape forms, and the poetics and politics of space. Her work in sound focuses on soundwalks, field recording, text scores, composition, multichannel audio, improvisation, live performance, and Deep Listening. Veronica's interest in Deep Listening emerged during an artistic growth period in Houston, Texas with mentor David Dove and the organization Nameless Sound, formerly the Pauline Oliveros Foundation Houston. As a dedicated listener and teaching artist, Veronica connects with people and organizations to nurture the growth of listening as social practice.

She has participated as an artist and researcher in various projects including: Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, Boyle Labs, Tablelands Center for Bioregional Art, South Shore Nature Sanctuary, American Religious Sound Project, Cyborg Mestiza: Borderland Feminism Today + Tomorrow, Ragdale Foundation, Roman Susan, National Museum of Mexican Art, Rice University's Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning, and the Chicago Park District.
