Romanian-French composer Horatiu Radulescu with two works from 1983, "Clepsydra" for 16 Sound Icons (a grand piano laying vertically on its side, with the strings played by bowing), and the 1984 work "Astray" for 6 saxophones and Sound Icons. Radulescu is noted for compositions using spectral techniques, which "comprises variable distribution of the spectral energy, synthesis of the global sound sources, micro- and macro-form as sound-process, four simultaneous layers of perception and of speed, and spectral scordaturae, i.e. rows of unequal intervals corresponding to harmonic scales."
