Recorded at Desisto Music Studios, Woodstock, NY by Tom Desisto.
"Chemical Composition is an improvising serious-music trio of electric guitar, keyboard, and percussion. Its members improvise by digging into their past and present musical lives, spent in an enormous variety and range of musical genres. They have all inhaled deeply the spirit of free jazz. They perform with the discipline and unity of classical chamber music to channel their virtuosity and to embrace the principle of great music-making everywhere: touching hearts and minds.
When Constance, John, and Tom met in Tom Desisto's professional studio in Woodstock, New York, in December of 2011, they had never improvised as a trio before. Yet their very first track, created within minutes of their arrival, became the title track of their first CD, Excitement Within the Trojan Horse, and set the trio's pattern:
completely improvised works, musically and dramatically fueled by years of performing widely-differing genres
bold instrumental technique
confidence in the great beauty, accessibility, and power of the sounds of contemporary music
profound concentration on their music while recording, with no editing or fixing afterwards.
What gives excitement to their sonic collaboration is their communal integrity in their quest for and belief in the beauty of musical freedom.
Chemical Composition
Although Chemical Composition, a contemporary alternative classical improvisational trio, is relatively new on the music scene, it has deep roots.
Constance Cooper, a composer of modern classical music and opera, has, for example, found common ground with the contemporary Americans Marga Richter; the electronic/acoustic composer Milton Babbitt; and the great composer/performers Charles Wuorinen and Thelonious Monk.
Tom Desisto, himself an orchestral composer and the owner of Desisto Music, senses within himself a very wide range of musical influences, spanning Ravel, Stravinsky, and Gil Evans, crossing the paths of hundreds of others.
John Cacciatore, a guitarist and songwriter as well as Chemical Composition's percussionist, has developed his signature style by studying Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, and Max Roach, and then extrapolating to an arrhythmic ambience whose music is completely rhythmically coherent despite dispensing with an omnipresent steady beat."-Chemical Composition
