An excellent jazz album using diverse styles bridging free and lyrical playing from the trio of Sergio Tavares (bass), Fabio Almeida (sax) and Joao Martins (drums), playing in and out of the jazz idiom and augmenting Almeida's sax with electronics in compelling ways.

"When the disc begins, we find a free jazz trio "the way", but soon this impression crumbles. The brief "Spontaneous # 1" collapses with an electronic eruption and what comes immediately afterwards is something else: brings us to the Nordic landscape, with Fabio Almeida, saxophonist, to oppose one garbarekiano universe to the previous sound-type Ornette Coleman. "Córculo" too quickly passes, however, and what comes next, with the electrified sax and a "groove" funk, makes it an allusion, and this time Michael Brecker. By this time we realized that the Phantom Trio is playing with the jazz references. And us. But wait ... This "# 00" is a record of Creative Sources, one of the most important record labels of "new school" of improvisation, right? Right. This can only mean that mood, a mood somewhat distorted (should I say "sarcasm"?), Here is a well-planned and staged motivation. "Colonel Meow", which is running a few minutes longer than the previous parts, is transformed into a kind of free funk, recovering a bit from what we had heard from the beginning, and it starts to heat up.
Almeida, who knew the Pãodemónio and an association with Hugo Carvalhais, and its partners, bassist Sergio Tavares and drummer John Martins, look, anyway, do not go immediately into the red. The second "Spontaneous" alignment works as a cool cloth on the forehead already burning with fever - is totally improvised, it is formally free, but it is also soothing. And quiet comes later, the "Ballad in the Void", happening as a Europeanized perspective of Jimmy Giuffre world. But, however, the simple fun was put aside. This is real and it sounds good as shit. Soon after, "Juniper" appears in jazz-rock like "unplugged" with "riffs" restless and ride longer without reins. Almeida shows again that is a musician well above average abilities, but even better is the solo bass: Tavares is magnificent. In this theme, the game of influences is forgotten and you enter more for music without eye winks. In "Misconception" is completely defined Phantom identity, with subsequent "Lacrau" (in Latin beat), "Spontaneous # 3" (geometric approach) and "Magma" (precious, attempts to fight fire with fire by part of Sergio Tavares) to solidify it. The disc has the motto one Bachelard poem about the weather, and because of these verses: "There is no doubt que Team Could be reborn, / but first it needs to die." Message understood."-Rui Eduardo Paes, Jazz Pt (translated by Google)
