A powerful recording that features heavy, intricate and deep grooves from Philadelphian Grant Calvin Weston (Ornette Coleman's Prime Time) on drums, percussion and synths and Lucas Brode on guitars, effects and loops, a great album of creative improvisation that blends fusion-oriented playing balanced with modern sound collage and atmospheric moments.

"In the months leading up to this project, common colleagues and friends of G. Calvin Weston and Lucas Brode suggested that the two musicians should meet and collaborate, considering that Lucas is a major fan of Lounge Lizards, the renowned band that Calvin joined in 1990. Once Calvin, known for his work with Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, heard some of Lucas's guitar playing, he suggested that they make a recording together. Lucas immediately agreed to the idea. Some time later, Lucas received a massive folder of Calvin's drumming, along with a few whacky synth noises. Lucas organized sound collages, then made guitar loops and recorded solos and other sounds that he felt would complement the energy of the project.
The final result is a powerful recording that features heavy, intricate and deep grooves, at times reminiscent of Marc Ribot on John Zorn's Asmodeus: Book of Angels Volume 7 (another group that features G. Calvin Weston) or punk-influenced music, one of Lucas's early inspirations, along with more introspective moments similar to Lounge Lizards."-577 Records
Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Grant Calvin Weston "G Calvin Weston was born June 6, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA. He became interested in drums at the age of 6, when he (and his neighbors) discovered his talent for rhythm as he beat on every car on the block. He lived in North Philadelphia where he saw musicians like Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five and James Brown at the Uptown Theatre. Seeing his attention focused on the drummers, his Father bought him a small set. In high school Calvin learned to read music and played second snare in the drum ensemble. He co-founded the group Bad Influence which played in cabarets and clubs around Philadelphia. At 17, Calvin joined Ornette Colemans Prime Time Band, with bass player jamalaadean tacuma.his close friend from philly, which toured extensively in North America and Europe. Grant Calvin Weston has blazed a harmolodic, funkadelic trail through modern jazz. This record is a culmination of recordings made on the West Coast and his hometown of Philadelphia. Weston puts his Midas touch on electronics and acoustic instruments that blow the socks off any jazz-rock poser out there. Listen to the man who funked-up Ornette Coleman in the 1970s." ^ Hide Bio for Grant Calvin Weston • Show Bio for Lucas Brode "Lucas Brode, a native of New York's Hudson Valley, is a guitarist & composer who draws from jazz harmony, experimental rock textures, and African rhythms.
