Marhaug, Lasse / Jerome Noetinger
Top
(erstwhile)
A tribute to late experimental sound artist Peter Rehberg (Pita) from collaborators and friends Lasse Marhaug and Jérôme Noetinger, ten recordings of wildly creative, slippery electronics, crunching sound bunts, rapid fire electronic turmoil and tapehead jamming, ending with a beautifully drifting tribute to an artist who widely influenced modern sound culture.
Harker, Nina
Nina Harker [VINYL]
(BeCoq)
Unusual approaches to rock song and instrumentals from this French duo of Apolline Schöser & Nocola Henry in collaboration with Valentine Noiret, Daniel Dariel on Japanese vocals, Louis Claus on Indian flute and Marie-Laure Gucciardi for poetic writing in Italian, &c.; peculiar and compelling, somehow reminiscent of Etron Fou...
Teube
Teube [CASSETTE]
(BeCoq)
Strange environments of sound from the French trio of Simon Le Vigouroux on double bass, Cyril Noël on electronics and Thomas Coquelet on electronics, in two morphing works connected by name through each side of the cassette, expeditions guided by murky rythmic elements and mutated field recordings, surrounded by rich and darkly tinged sonic elements.
Gross, Jean-Philippe / Golden Oriole
Optical Cadillac / Golden Oriole [VINYL 10-inch]
(BeCoq)
A split 10" vinyl album of two very different works: first French sound artist Jean-Philippe Gross in a sonic assault of garish rhythmic electronic persistence and noise; then the Golden Oriole instrumental rock duo of Kristoffer Riis on guitar and Thore Warland on drums in a compelling work of grooving structure with diverse percussive interaction.
Toys'R Noise
Manivole [VINYL]
(BeCoq)
Using toys and handmade instruments alongside guitar, bass, synths, plundered recordings and electronics, the French Toys'R'Noise trio are a live performing group that borrows from electro-beat rock forms with overtones of IDM/ambient forms, building extended sections and then amusing with quick-witted sections that bridge a clear love of the music.
Hawkins, Chester
K516156/91044 [33 1/3 7-inch VINYL]
(Intangible Arts)
A 33 rpm 7" from Washington, DC sound artist Chester Hawkins, which "contains highly concentrated extracts" of two remixes of live recordings at Logan Fringe Arts Space and Red Onion Records, from his limited-edition USB release "Cops Need Serial Numbers"; mesmerizing and hypnotic electronics from a masterful performer and kosmiche explorer.
Loubatiere / Warnecke
Couleurs Chimeriques
(BeCoq)
An album of rich aural environments contrasted with clamorous action and disintegrating sound from the duo of French percussionist Rodolphe Loubatiere performing on snare drum and Berlin-based sound sculptor Pierce Warnecke, their second album as a duo presenting a sophisticated and diverse set of compositions that both entrance and disrupt their listeners.

Spectre Of Radiants
(ANTS Records)
An extended and rich confluence of strings from R Keenan Lawler and John Krausbauer, using resonator guitar and banjo, sustained tones that intertwine in a beautiful and optimistic drone, minimalistic yet drenched in a profusion of harmonic detail; a beautiful and elusive dream mixing between an Indian raga and an alien electronic environment.
Holy Mountain, The
Toad Of Light [VINYL]
(Shhpuma)
Cinematic aesthetics and themes from the Norwegian Holy Mountain duo, performing on the uncommon pairing of two instruments--accordion played by Andreas Angell, and drums with acoustic and electronic parts and vintage synthesizer played by Aleksander Tidemann--in their 3rd release inspired by the dystopian sci-fi visions of John Carpenter, Philip Glass and Daft Punk.
Nakama
Worst Generation
(Nakama Records)
Freely improvised and unusual collective improv from the quintet of Christian Meaas Svendsen (double bass), Andreas Wildhagen (drums), Ayumi Nataka (piano), Adrian Loseth Waade (violin) and Agness Hvizdalek (voice), an abstract yet energetic album with Hvizdalek's voice adding an exotic edge to extended techniques based in free jazz strategies.
Hvizdalek / Nergaard / Tavil / Garner
Juxtaposition
(Nakama Records)
Sonic sources of a wide variety of timbre, rhythm and tone, mixed with voice, feedback, even bird sounds, make up the strata of this intriguing album from Oslo Improvisers Agnes Hvizdalek (voice), Magnus Skavhaug Nergaard (electric bass, electronics, field recordings), Utku Tavil (snare drum, no input mixer, sampler), and Natali Abrahamsen Garner (voice, electronics).
Hawkins, Chester
Magnetisk Nord
(Intangible Arts)
Chester Hawkins' curiosity for Denmark resulted in his renting an apartment in central Kobenhavn, bringing along his electronically modified lapsteel guitar, wind and reed instruments, tabletop noise-boxes, mobile synthesizer apps and a shortwave radio, which he joined with field recordings from the capital region, creating this magnificent loveletter to Denmark.
