• Show Bio for Joe Fonda "Joe Fonda is a composer, bassist, recording artist, interdisciplinary performer, producer and educator. An accomplished international Jazz artist, Fonda has performed with his own ensembles throughout the United States ,Canada , Europe and Asia. He has collaborated and performed with such artists as Anthony Braxton ,Archie Shepp, Ken McIntyre, Lou Donaldson, Bill and Kenny Barron, Leo Smith, Perry Robinson, Dave Douglas, Curtis Fuller, , Bill Dixon, Han Bennink, Bobby Naughton, Xu Fengia, Randy Weston, Gebhard Ullmann, Carla Bley, Carlo Zingaro, Barry Altschul, Billy Bang. Fonda was the bassist with the renowned Anthony Braxton sextet, octet, tentet, from 1984 through 1999. Fonda also sat on the Board of Directors from 1994 to 1999, and was the President from 1997 to 1999 of the newly formed Tri-Centric Foundation. He has also performed with the 38-piece Tri-Centric orchestra under the direction of Anthony Braxton, and was the bassist for the premiere performance of Anthony Braxton's opera, Shalla Fears for the Poor, performed at the John Jay Theater in New York, New York, October 1996. As a composer, Fonda has been the recipient of numerous grants and commissions From Meet the Composer New York and the New England Foundation on the Arts . Fonda was also a member of The Creative Musicians Improvisors Forum directed by Leo Smith, and was the bassist with the American Tap Dance Orchestra in New York City, directed by world renowned tap dancer, Brenda Bufalino. In 1989, Fonda performed with Fred Ho's Jazz and Peking opera in its world premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. From 1982 to 1986 Fonda was the bassist and dancer with the Sonomama Dance Company. An independent producer since 1978, Fonda is the founding director of Kaleidoscope Arts an interdisciplinary performance ensemble and is the producer and musicial director for the Connecticut Composers and improvisors Festival from 2001 to 2011. He is best known as one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band. Johanson came up in the R&B world and began drumming at an early age, often accompanied by friend Lamar Williams on bass. Johanson backed soul singers, including a membership in Otis Redding's touring band in 1966, and afterward touring with the acclaimed soul duo, Sam & Dave. After joining up with Duane Allman in February 1969, he quickly became the first recruit into Allman's new group, soon joined by bassist Berry Oakley, fellow drummer Butch Trucks, guitarist Dickey Betts and lastly Allman's younger brother, singer, organist and pianist Gregg Allman. Tononi taught himself to play drums in a pop/rock idiom as a youth, then turned to playing jazz and classical percussion in his late teens, studying with Andrew Cyrille and Bob Moses. Playing locally in Milan in the early 1980s, he joined the Democratic Orchestra Milano and co-founded the Nexus ensemble with Daniele Cavallanti, as well as the group Moon on the Water toward the middle of the decade. Through the 1980s he played in a variety of idioms with musicians such as Pierre Favre, Tiziana Ghiglioni, Maggie Nicols, Barre Phillips, Dewey Redman, Giancarlo Schiaffini, and Gianluigi Trovesi. In the 1990s Tononi played with the Jazz Chromatic Ensemble and the Italian Instabile Orchestra, as well as in a trio with Beppe Caruso. Having served an apprenticeship with Edward Vesala for several years, three recordings for ECM brought Björkenheim to the attention of the international community, leading to encounters with musicians such as Bill Laswell, Anthony Braxton, Reggie Workman, Henry Kaiser, and Elliot Sharp. Björkenheim has been a soloist with the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra, the Avanti Chamber Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the UMO big band and the Tampere philharmonic, and has composed for them all. From a very early age he began to play with small jazz combos, with various Italian symphony orchestras (Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI, Torino, the Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia and the Filarmonici di Torino) as well as with several brass chamber music ensembles. With the latter he performed at festivals such as Settembre Musica, Asti Teatro 14/15 and Piemonte in Musica and won prizes at competitions in Stresa, Moncalieri, Asti and Busalla. In addition to his work with ensembles of classical music he has been a very active jazz musician, playing with some of the most important figures of the contemporary Italian creative jazz scene. Resident in Monzuno (BO) in via Rio delle bietole 4. In 1991 he graduated from the Conservatory "GB Martini" in Bologna in trombone, specializing immediately in the bass tuba. As soon as he graduated, he began working with some lyric-symphonic orchestras, including: Pisa Symphony Orchestra, Pesaro Symphony Orchestra, B. Maderna Orchestra, Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, Bologna Municipal Theater Orchestra. In the 1997/98 season he is part of the group "Solistinsieme" directed by Maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli. He soon chose to carry out his profession in areas that were not only classical. Hence collaborations in the jazz field with groups including: Jazz Chromatic Ensemble and Nexus with whom he recorded in 2001 the album "Seize the Time!" Cavallanti had from 14 years classical saxophone and clarinet lessons with M. Ezio Zappatini. In the 1970s, he was part of the Gruppo Contemporaneo to Guido Mazzon and Gaetano Liguori, then played with Patrizia Scascitelli, in the band Aktuala and in his own trio with bassist Roberto Della Grotta and drummer Filippo Monico. He lived in 1979/80 in Amsterdam, where he played with Wolter Wierbos and Petro Nikiruy. After studying harmony and arrangement with Angiolo Tarocchi he worked from 1991 with a quartet of his own, 1993 with Dewey Redman. Treves's nickname is "il Puma di Lambrate" (Lambrate's Cougar), mimicking the British bluesman John Mayall, known as the "Manchester's Lion". Lambrate is the quarter of Milan where Treves grew up. Born and raised in Milan, Fabio Treves became interested in music at a young age, helped by the father's passion for a variety of musical genres, including classical music, jazz, blues, and Portuguese Fado. Treves' interest in music led him to study a wide range of musical instruments, including bass, organ, trumpet, and alto sax. During the 1960s he began playing what would become his signature instrument, the harmonica. He settled near Milan as a blues harmonica player, inspired by Sonny Terry, Little Walter, Paul Butterfield, Alan Wilson, and Sonny Boy Williamson II. In 1967, he played with his first band, the Friday Blues Group. He later joined the Simonluca e l'Enorme Maria band, which performed at the Festival di Sanremo in 1972. The following year, he again took part in the Festival, this time as a chorister for Fausto Leali, in the song "La Bandiera di Sole." In 1974, Treves founded the first Italian blues band, the Treves Blues Band. Soon after, he met the Texan guitarist and harmonicist Cooper Terry after Terry's move to Italy, and the two began a long musical collaboration. During his career, Treves has played with Dave Kelly, Sunnyland Slim, Johnny Shines, Homesick James, Willie Mabon, Billy Branch, Dave Kelly, Paul Jones, Alexis Korner, Bob Margolin, Sam Lay, Louisiana Red, Gordon Smith, Son Seals, and Eddie Boyd. He met Frank Zappa during his Italian visit and remains the only Italian musician to have played with Zappa on stage. Treves has participated in many music festivals in Italy and around the world. He continues to publish blues music in Italy, having released more than ten albums to date. Trumpeter and composer Ron Horton had Zambrini guest in his Cd "It's a gadget world" , recorded in New York in 2006, also including some Zambrini's songs. Pianist Stefano Bollani opens with a tune by Zambrini his solo album produced by ECM, the famous label in Germany, issued on 2006. Mr. Lee Konitz himself recorded a series of Zambrini's tunes in a sequence of three cds they realized together for label "Phillogy" in 2008 English pianist John Law simply dedicated to Zambrini's music his cd "The moment", in 2002, Cornucopia edition, London Zambrini was guest in several broadcastings by national Radios He was for 7 years partner of Cineteca Italiana, Milan, improvising at the piano live sonorization of silent movies More recent projects are regarding young guitarist Filippo Cosentino, with an out coming cd along with Jesper Bodilsen and Andrea Marcelli, a new trio with bass player Paolino Dalla Porta andm french drummer Manhu Roche, a cd intitled "Dois Lugares", with the great Samba composer and performer Moacyr Luz. Several concerts in the last two years with this "Dois Lugares " project, leaded by italian vocalist Francesca Ajmar, and with Moacyr Luz himself, who wrote most of the music for this project. Also, about Brasil, a long collaboration with th choir director, from Sao Paulo, Martinho L. Galati De Olivera, Kept Zambrini trhough several concerts, finally in Sao Paulo in 2014, playing with some great names of that scene's music like Teco Cardoso, Lea Frerie, Fabiana Cozza...
