Far ranging free improvisation from the Sao Paulo, Brazil quartet of Jorge Nuno on guitar, Romulo Alexis on trumpet, Vitor Vieira Branco on vibraphone, and Rafael Cab on drums, in ethnically rich and spiritual playing that incorporates beautiful atmospheric work, ruminating assertive playing, and idiosyncratic interaction with unusual technique and percussive instruments.

Recorded Nimbus Studios, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on February 27th, 2019, by Paulo Senoni.
"Guitarist Jorge Nuno (Signs of the Sillouette, Dead Vortex) starts his project "Connection" with this São Paulo. As the title indicates, Nuno recorded with Brazilian musicians, more precisely, artists resident in São Paulo. Next to Nuno's guitar are trumpet (Rômulo Alexis), vibraphone (Victor Vieira-Branco) and drums (Rafael Cab) - all very active instrumentalists who have helped the local scene stay alive and productive. Nuno is the Portuguese artist who passes the most through Brazil, due to his extramusical work in an airline, so it is especially gratifying to see him developing projects with musicians from here, that is, his travels through the country have been artistically productive - previously , recorded a thought-provoking duo with São Paulo drummer Marcio Gibson, "Hll".
About the Connection series, says Nuno: "It's a series of connections with musicians from several places around the world and the perception of each one of them when playing together ... The knowledge of the place and the people we meet along the way is the most important of all ". This connection with the São Paulo scene yielded five themes, in just over 40 minutes of free improvisation. Right at the opening, "God-End", we are driven by a theme of deep beauty, in which the guitar's punctual and spaced intrusions and Alexis's playing trumpet send us into numbing scenarios, a slow-motion kind of a rhythmically insane city like we live to. This tone also marks "Viola Shot", the longest at 16 minutes, although both trumpet and guitar are at brighter voltages (the effects created by Nuno are especially impactful, especially when the song gets hot by 3 minutes, with strings and blowing in their most furious moments).
Behind it all, Vieira-Branco's vibraphone brushes the atmosphere with sometimes cryptic sounds, interspersed by Cab's detailed drums, which occupy the spaces without overlapping muscle. Portugal-Brazil connections should undoubtedly be much more intense and routine."-Fabricio Vieira (Free Form, Free Jazz) (translated by Google)
