"These explosive live recordings capture Tony Irving (from legendary UK group Ascension) & Massimo Magee (up-and-coming writer, artist, and musician based in London) in full, incendiary flight on two dates in their early 2019 UK duo tour.

The music is an impassioned statement of transcendental yearning, refracted through some of the more intense possibilities of the acoustic drum kit and saxophone duo on two separate January evenings. It is informed strongly by the free jazz tradition which the duo takes as its vital spark and the timeless relevance of that music to essential human struggle, with urgency and insistence that reflects the contemporary condition. It is a music that, at heart, resists analysis because its eyes are set firmly on achieving a state about which no words could be said, a state that 'gives a holiday to every sense'. "Massimo Magee is a writer, artist and musician based in London. His work is wide-ranging, including fiction, text art, sound and image digital art pieces, experimental music (improvised, composed and everything in between), free jazz, radically extended saxophony, electronics, data manipulation and much more. He has performed internationally and had recordings released in the USA, UK, France, Poland and Australia with musicians such as Eddie Prévost, Hankil Ryu, Sangtae Jin, Keith Rowe, David W Stockard, Tony Irving (Ascension), Christian Munthe, Lee Noyes, Matt Earle, Adam Sussmann, Elliott Dalgleish, Michael Pisaro, Jim Denley, Dale Gorfinkel, Barre Phillips and many more on labels such as Homophoni, Copy For Your Records, Kendra Steiner Editions, Ilse, Ideal State, Audiotong, Factor Vac and others. Ensembles have included Cyclone Trio, Apocalypse Jazz Unit, the Magee/Green/Fowler-Roy Trio, MTJAM and many ad hoc groups. His Manifesto (New Unities) has recently been published."

"Tony Irving formed the improvisation duo Ascension in London in the 90's latterly with former Skullflower and Whitehouse guitarist Stefan Jaworzyn. He has played with Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Pat Thomas, Lol Coxhill amongst others and recorded a CD with British Jazz legend Paul Dunmall. In an augmented line up as Descension with Simon Fell and Charles Wharf they almost caused a riot supporting Sonic Youth in London. Since 2005 Irving has been residing in Brisbane where he has been building percussion guitars."
