"Since his emergence on the west coast in the late 1970s, Evander Music founder and saxophonist Phillip Greenlief has achieved international critical acclaim for his recordings and performances with musicians and composers in the post-jazz continuum as well as new music innovators and virtuosic improvisers. He has performed and recorded with Fred Frith, Meredith Monk, Nels Cline, and They Might Be Giants; albums include THAT OVERT DESIRE OF OBJECT with Joelle Leandre, and ALL AT ONCE with FPR (Frank Gratkowski, Jon Raskin, Phillip Greenlief). Recent residencies have included Headlands Center for the Arts and from 2012 to 2014 he was the curator at Berkeley Arts, a home for progressive music. "John Bischoff (b. 1949) is an early pioneer of live computer music. He is known for his solo constructions in real-time synthesis as well as his development of computer network music. Bischoff studied composition with Robert Moran, James Tenney, Robert Ashley, and David Behrman. He has been active in the experimental music scene in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 40 years as a composer, performer, and teacher. His performances around the US include NEW MUSIC AMERICA festivals in 1981 and 1989, Roulette and Experimental Intermedia in New York, and Lampo in Chicago to name a few. He has performed in Europe at the Festival d'Automne in Paris, Akademie der Künste in Berlin, STEIM in Amsterdam, and Fylkingen in Stockholm among other places. He is a founding member of the League of Automatic Music Composers, the world's first computer network band, and co-authored an article on the League's music that appears in Foundations of Computer Music (MIT Press 1985). From 1985 to the present he has performed and recorded with the network band The Hub. In 1999 he received a $25,000 award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in New York in recognition of his music. He was also named a recipient of an Alpert Award/Ucross Residency Fellowship in 2002. In 2004, noted media theorist Douglas Kahn published A Musical Technography of John Bischoff in the Leonardo Music Journal (Vol. 14, MIT Press). Two important retrospective CD packages documenting computer network music were released in 2007 and 2008: The League of Automatic Music Composers: 1978-1983 (New World Records) and 3-CD set of recordings by The Hub titled Boundary Layer (Tzadik). Recordings of his work are also available on Lovely Music, 23Five, Centaur, and Artifact Recordings. A solo CD titled Audio Combine was released a few years ago on New World Records and was picked as one of the "Best of the Year 2012" by WIRE magazine. Bischoff was also listed in Nate Wooley's "guide to American weirdos" (WIRE, July 2016). He is Professor of Music at Mills College in Oakland, California."

"Tim Perkis has been working in the medium of live electronic and computer sound for many years, performing, exhibiting installation works and recording in North America,Europe and Japan. His work has largely been concerned with exploring the emergence of life-like properties in complex systems of interaction.

In addition, he is a well known performer in the world of improvised music, having performed on his electronic improvisation instruments with hundreds of artists and groups, including Chris Brown, John Butcher, Eugene Chadbourne, Fred Frith, Gianni Gebbia, Frank Gratkowski, Luc Houtkamp, Yoshi Ichiraku, Matt Ingalls, Joelle Leandre, Gino Robair, ROVA saxophone quartet, Elliott Sharp, Leo Wadada Smith and John Zorn. Ongoing groups he has founded or played in include the League of Automatic Music Composers and the Hub -- pioneering live computer network bands -- and Rotodoti, the Natto Quartet, Fuzzybunny, All Tomorrow's Zombies and Wobbly/Perkis/Antimatter.

He has taught at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and the California College of the Arts (CCA); has been composer-in-residence at Mills College in Oakland California, artist-in-residence at Xerox Corporation's Palo Alto Research Center, and designed musical tools and toys at Paul Allen's legendary thinktank, Interval Research. In 2013 he was a resident fellow at the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Research (IMéRA) of the University of Aix-Marseille in France.

His checkered career as a researcher and engineer has brought him a variety of interesting projects: creating data sonification displays for research physicists and biologists in France; designing museum displays for science and music museums in San Francisco, Toronto and Seattle; creating artificial-intelligence based auction tools for business; working on mobile phone based support systems for the blind; consulting on multimedia art presentation networks for the SF Art Commission and SF Airport; writing software embedded in toys and other consumer products; and creating new tools for sound and video production, research and analysis.

"Jane Rigler, flutist, composer, educator and producer is known for her innovations in new flute performance, techniques and unique musical vocabulary.

Between September 2019-August 2020 Jane will be based in Ireland, teaching and researching while on a Fulbright Teaching/Scholar award during her sabbatical from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. During her time in Ireland she is offering Deep Listening® workshops, performing, composing, teaching and studying Ogham scripts, Gaeilge, Sean-nós and traveling to ancient landscapes.

Jane is featured performer in contemporary music festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe as a soloist as well as within chamber ensembles, both as an interpreter as well as an improviser. Besides premiering works written especially for her, Jane's own compositions include solo acoustic pieces inspired by language to complex interactive electronic works that pay homage to communities, language and the sounds of the environment, whether they be the natural world, animals or people and machines. Jane is a Deep Listening© Certificate holder. She travels internationally and locally offering exploratory listening workshops for all people.

After receiving a B.M. (Northwestern University) and then pursuing flute studies in various parts of Europe and North America, she gained her M.A. and Ph.D. (UC San Diego) completing The Vocalization of the Flute, a book demonstrating both new and ancient methods of singing-while-playing the flute. Her expertise has led to performances in contemporary operas, experimental theater and dance events as well as other interactive electronic festivals.

Her compositions are sought after by other flutists and have been performed in South Korea, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, and in concert halls and universities throughout the U.S. Her work While you sleep is a documentation CD that includes a sound installation made at the Chihan'an Art Project residency in Ohito, Japan in 2013.

Jane organizes and collaborates on events such as the UCCS VAPA Music Faculty Peak FreQuency Creative Arts Festival/Series (in Colorado Springs), the Relay~NYC! held at MoMA (in NYC), the Spontaneous Music Festival and has received support for her works from NewMusic USA, American Composer's Forum, Montalvo Lucas Artist Residency, Brooklyn Arts Council, Meet the Composer-Global Connections, Harvestworks Studios, Art Omi, UCROSS, Hambidge, and RPI's Create @ iEar Studios.

Jane teaches introductory computer music, sound art, Deep Listening® based courses, performance art classes, flute, composition, 20th-21st century music history and upper division interdisciplinary courses in the Music Program within the Visual and Performing Arts Department at UCCS (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs). She has been instrumental in bringing several world-renowned guests artists/composer/performers/sound artists to the campus: Pauline Oliveros, Philip Blackburn, Pamela Z, Miya Masaoka, Pamela Madsen, amongst others.

Before living in Colorado she lived nine years in Spain, as a performing flutist and improviser. When she returned to the US in 2003, she landed in NYC to work with several arts organizations such as the Lincoln Center Institute and the Orchestra St. Luke's where she helped launch a Young Composer Program in the NY schools. Her most notable work is for the Manhattan New Music Project (MNMP) where she spent several years working and researching music education programs such as CME and CIAE for underserved populations and children with disabilities.

Together with artist-programmer Zachary Seldess, she designed and developed the Music Cre8tor an interactive, sensor-driven music composition program for young people with disabilities.

"Detroit native and general wanderer Evelyn Davis is an inside/prepared/new music pianist, improvisor, pipe organist, composer, vocalist, synthesist, teacher, songstress, and maker of /participator in oddly shaped musics with an occasional side of performance art.

She improvises and has recorded with Phillip Greenlief, Fred Frith, and Michael Zerang, among many other esteemed musicians from Chicago and the Bay Area. She has appeared at several prog festivals in Europe, including Rock in Opposition festival in Carmeaux, France, and Different Sounds Festival in Lublin, Poland. Evelyn holds degrees from in Jazz (SWCC) and formal Composition (Indiana University) and has her Master's degree in Performance and Improvisation from Mills College.

Evelyn created and performed the music of Frankenixon, with the help of a rotating cast of buddies, notably including the incredible guitarist Joe Kiplinger."

"Composer/performer Kyle Bruckmann's work extends from a Western classical foundation into genre-bending gray areas encompassing free jazz, electronic music and post-punk rock. A busy and varied performance schedule and appearances on more than 60 recordings have led to his recognition as "an excellent composer, striking the right balance between form and freedom" (Signal to Noise), "a modern day renaissance musician" (Dusted) and "a seasoned improviser with impressive extended technique and peculiar artistic flair" (All Music Guide).

Shortly after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003, he joined forces with acclaimed new music collective sfSound and with Quinteto Latino (a woodwind quintet specializing in Latin American composers). He is now also a member of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Eco Ensemble, and Splinter Reeds. He has worked with the San Francisco Symphony and most of the area's regional orchestras remaining active in an international community of improvisers and sound artists. Current local improvising working groups include Addleds, Shudder, and mchtnchts.

From 1996 until his westward relocation, he was a fixture in Chicago's experimental music underground, with frequent collaborators Jason Ajemian, Jim Baker, Jeb Bishop, Olivia Block, Guillermo Gregorio, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Robbie Hunsinger, Bob Marsh, Weasel Walter, and Michael Zerang. Long-term affiliations include the electro-acoustic duo EKG, the "rock" monstrosity Lozenge, and the Creative Music quintet Wrack (recipient of a 2012 Chamber Music America New Jazz Works award).

Bruckmann earned undergraduate degrees in music and psychology at Rice University in Houston, studying oboe with Robert Atherholt, serving as music director of campus radio station KTRU, and achieving academic distinction as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his Masters degree in 1996 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he studied oboe performance with Harry Sargous and contemporary improvisation with Ed Sarath."
