"Marc Vilanova // saxophone

Active as a performer in many art forms, including electroacoustic music, free improvisation, contemporary repertoire and collaborations with dancers, saxophonist Marc Vilanova's work is focused on the exploration of the instrument, as well as ongoing research into new sounds, techniques and expressions connected with technology and other arts.

His approach coherently encapsulates both performative feature and sound installation. His works have been presented in many festivals around the world including countries like Japan, USA, Canada, Brazil, Taiwan, Russia and many more within Europe creating a deep involvement with the viewers, who are urged to evolve from a condition of mere spectatorship.

He is also running several workshops of extended techniques and live electronics that had been performed at the Tokyo National University, MIT Saxophone Ensemble in Taipei, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Saxophone Academy in São Paulo and other universities within Europe like Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Royal Academy of Music Aarhus or Hochschule für Musik Basel. Those experiences meant the first step for some musicians that keep exploring successfully their instrument up until now."

"Sergio Castrillón is a Colombian cellist who currently holds a doctorate at the University of Helsinki. His work specializes in graphic notation and sound improvisation, exploring "noise" and unconventional forms of musical improvisation. We have collaborated a couple of times mixing music and poetry in the elaboration of visual poems in graphic notation. At the beginning of August, he had the pleasure of designing and curatorial assistance for Sergio's sound exhibition at the Third Space gallery."

"James Andean is a musician and sound artist. He is active as both a composer and a performer in a range of fields, including electroacoustic music, improvisation, sound art, and audiovisuals. He is a founding member of several groups and ensembles, including Rank Ensemble, LOS duo, and Plucié/DesAndes. He has performed throughout Europe and North America, and his works have been presented around the world.

James is a founding member of improvisation and new music quartet Rank Ensemble and interdisciplinary improvisation ensemble The Tuesday Group, and one half of audiovisual performance art duo Plucié/DesAndes. He has performed throughout Europe and North America, and his works have been presented around the world. He is a lecturer at the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre of De Montfort University."
