Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"ORD was formed a few years ago, and Hemligheter pa vagen (Secrets on the way) is the band's first album.

There is a text of Tranströmer's from the short memoir 'Memories Look at Me' that has inspired Karin particularly for this album: "I acarry inside myself my earlier faces, as a tree contains its rings. The sum of them is me. The mirror sees only my latest face, while I know all my previous ones." I look at the photo of the album cover. It pictures a girl in a doorway. She looks straight into the camera. It is an image of Karin Johansson when ten years old.

We carry all our different ages and memories with us, they walk next to us each day, but there are gaps between moments of recognition. Karin Johansson and her four fellow musicians are listening in with a finely tuned presence. They help us on the receiving end to stop, see, and simply listen. And I can't help wondering what the poet and pianist Transtromer would have been thinking or feeling if he had been able to sit in on their conversation."-Havtorn

"Jenny Willén is a singer and a composer from Gothenburg, Sweden. She has gotfine reviews for her penetrating way of making lyrics, then combining them withmusic, and for the way she captures the audience at concerts.Jenny Willén Kvartett became an eleven year project (1994-2005),with lyrics in Swedish and a traditional Scandinavian way of singing, also withinfluences of jazz and blues. The quartet made two records, produced by PärEdwardson and recorded in Apparat Studios (Zebra Art Records/Naxos)Påtår (=Another cup of coffee) (2001) and Nu börjar det roliga (=Now the fun begins) (2004)

Jenny Willén's work includes music and lyric for choirs as well as music for smaller ensembles like Gothenburg Chamber Soloists, the ensemble with whom she had an exciting project, Medan månen ser på (=While the moon is watching) in 2010.

An unrestrained album of free jazz, unorthodox electronic excursions and vocal irascibility as legendary tenor saxophonist Joe McPhee joins the Bazuinschal duo of alto saxophonist Mette Rasmussen and percussionist & electronic manipulator Dennis Tyfus (Ultra Eczema) for this singularly unusual 2018 concert at Het Bos, in Antwerp, Belgium; magnificently indescribable!

An exemplary concert of free jazz with world influences, from a quartet drawn from diverse parts of the world--trumpeter Don Cherry from New York, Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) from South Africa, double bassist Johnny Dyani, also from South Africa, and Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos--in four side-long improvisations recorded in Austria in 1972.

Turning the piano trio concept onto its sonic side, the Swedish trio of Nina de Heney on double bass, Karin Johansson on piano, and Henrik Wartel on drums owe more to AMM than jazz tradition, as they use extended techniques and a sound-oriented approach to improvisation, presenting three live recordings at Elementstudion, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
