Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"The palette of sounds Chuck achieves with the guitar is moving. Not even a volume pedal, just two hands and six strings. I enjoy being hit by brief and unexpected melodies and then taken back to completely abstract landscapes. I love hearing a Stratocaster in this context; it isn't its usual place, its sound is so unique, and it adds an extra beauty to it all. The music is raw and fresh; I can hear how Chuck is working to make it happen, which makes me feel part of what is being developed. It can be aggressive at times and is definitely powerful. Rhythmic motives are set and shot down fearlessly. It keeps you there, engaged, wanting to see where the next turn takes you. It is such an enjoyable ride!""-Luciana Bass

Artist Biographies

Chuck Roth, a.k.a. watergh0st is a New York-based guitarist known for his experimental and improvisational approach to music. His style blends elements of classical guitar, electronic music, and free improvisation, creating a distinctive sound that emphasizes the physicality of his instrument.

Roth's musical journey began with classical guitar studies, focusing on the traditional canon. However, he gravitated towards electronic music, drawing inspiration from its subtractive properties and patterning. This influence is evident in his work, where he translates electronic concepts into guitar performances, crafting fluid melodies that unfold organically.

Performing under the moniker "watergh0st," Roth has captivated audiences with his dynamic live performances. A review of his show at Cafe Nine in July 2023 noted how his hands "flew across the fretboard of his electric guitar," delivering music that transcended traditional genres and connected deeply with listeners.
